Visit to the Thew Shovel / Lorain Shovel Plant

Hi everyone,

Spent yesterday visiting the old Lorain/Thew Shovel plan in Lorain, Ohio.  The building and grounds are now owned by the PC Campana company of Lorain.  They are building specialized steel products in the plant these days.   We were invited on a tour by the COO of the corporation that exists today while we were at the Piston Power Show in Cleveland.

The plant was built in1897 and was sold to PC Campana in 1978 when Lorain moved to Tennessee.  There are over 25 acres and over 500,000 square feet under roof (multiple buildings).

Here are some pics with captions. Hope I got all my information correct!

Enjoy!

Sign outside the building:

Modified sign on outside of the building - Sign used to say: Lorain Division Thew Shovel:

Sign embedded in the floor of the front hallway in the headquarters.  I was told that the metal plate to the left of the L in Lorain used to say "Thew Shovel":

Hope you enjoyed the tour as much as we did!
